Catena Cabernet Sauvignon

Sale price$25.00

Bodega Catena Zapata is a wine estate in Mendoza, Argentina.
Vintage:

Interpretation: 600 ppm of tannins is common for a Cabernet blend at this price point. The 0.36 pTAN:IRP ratio suggests that the yield per acre was higher, especially in the context of a 30+ day maceration. Still, a bANT:pTAN ratio of 0.21 suggests a good color conversion. The producer also notes that the wine can age for 10 to 20 years. High tannin concentrations usually necessitate aging but are not strictly necessary to age. Ageability, moderate alcohol, and the use of spontaneous fermentation at scale suggest an earlier harvest that preserves the quality and antioxidant properties of the 1750 ppm of IRPs.

Blend: 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot
Vineyard: A blend of four vineyards (about 1000 m elevation), each divided into lots that are harvested at different times.

Argentina

Argentina is celebrated for its bold and vibrant Malbec, along with other notable wines like Bonarda, Cabernet Sauvignon, and aromatic whites such as Torrontés. Stretching along the foothills of the Andes Mountains, Argentina’s wine regions, including Mendoza, Salta, and Patagonia, benefit from a continental climate with warm, sunny days, cool nights, and low humidity. The high-altitude vineyards, often exceeding 1,000 meters (3,300 feet), provide intense sunlight and large diurnal temperature swings, enhancing ripeness, acidity, and complexity in the grapes.
